Ski Sanctuary!

When the kids were born, we were adament than we would instill in them a love of skiing. They had no choice in the matter. Practically ever since they could walk, we'd take them to the Alps, strap them to some skis and point them downhill. We had rather hoped that it would take a lot longer than it has for them to become better at it than us.

For that rapid improvement I blame their school and in particular the school Ski Team. The boys now race in both Slalom and Giant Slalom, on dry slopes during the Summer and Autumn months and on snow in the Winter.

Ski racing, as we have discovered, requires a significant amount of kit, including many pairs of skis and those skis need to be serviced. Dry Slopes, in particular, are very hard on ski bases and edges and require a thick layer of special wax and a vigorous filing after every use so I've become rather adept at looking after them. I'd always serviced my own skis and snowboards but the needs of a racing teenager dwarf those of the rest of the family.

So, I've decided to extend my range or servicing solutions to include skis and snowboards. Details of the main services offered are on the main site but in essence this includes waxing and edging and filling smaller gouges.

Waxing will all be done by hand, using an iron, scraper and brushes. After a good clean with a citrus cleaner and Roto-Brushes, I'll apply two layers of all purpose wax and then one layer specific to the conditions you're expecting.

Edging is done with a mix of diamond stones and files, depending on the condition of the edges, and how sharp you actually want them. I'll go over the edges first to ensure any burrs are removed before using the files and stones to get them sharp and hardened so they last for the duration of your holiday.

If you've been rock-surfing and the base has a load of gouges taken out of it, then this is something I may be able to help with. I use P-tex to fill the gouges before waxing the base. Provided the base isn't too colourful, it's usually an invisible repair.

If you're interested in getting your skis or board serviced before the ski season starts, then please get in touch!
